A Rubbish Deal for Wilkinsons Court

Residents at Wilkinsons Court are having a rough time of it due to the results of the inadequate number of parking spaces incorporated in their development. On Wednesday mornings the Hambleton cleansing wagon is due to empty their wheelie bins.  On 1st October, because it is dark at 6.30am, the wagon driver did not wish to reverse amongst the chicane of cars parked on either side of the road to reach the hammer-head.  Instead, he waited near the entrance and the wheelie bins were hauled from the properties to the wagon.  Except that the men did not collect all the bins.  Except that the men did not repatriate all the wheelie bins.  Some empty bins were left in the roadway causing an obstruction to traffic, and were still there, as shown in this photograph, taken at 9.30am.  Affected cars were unable to keep to their side of the road. You may be pleased to know that due to the attention shown by local Hambleton officers, the unemptied bin was emptied the following day at another street. This problem is just one small indication of the difficulties which will proliferate through the Market Place Traffic Scheme which the Town Council saw fit to pass, by a majority, as fit for us and our town, on 1st September 2008.  It tells us all, if we needed to be told, that there is not enough parking in Easingwold for the cars of those who live here, and that playing about with traffic flows in the market place and reducing the number of parking spaces will push more people to park in the already crowded domestic parts of town.  Why should we be forced to have disc parking?  We have heard that Stokesley said no to disc parking and that Hambleton has since said it is reducing the money that town will get.  Mrs Shepherd, at the 17th September Town Council meeting, voiced a very pertinent question regarding the market place and any agreement which might be signed between North Yorkshire and Town Council to let NYCC run a disc parking scheme, for would it allow the county full control of the market place effectively in perpetuity? We, as residents, can see, hear and read the feelings of local folk who attended the Town Council meetings, and find how our views count for nought, as far as a majority of town councillors are concerned. We should watch, listen and continue to attend Town Council meetings to see that our views are taken into account.  Think, when they ask do you want disc parking, a one-way route, changed routings for the Galtres entrances, for their questions are always carefully worded to get the answers which they the consultants want, so that ‘improvements’ can be imposed on us, whether we like it or not.Back at Wilkinsons Court and its problems, they do not now get their recycling boxes (yes, they do have them!) and bags emptied, which they did in the past, as Hambleton now makes the recycling collections.  Where will it all end?
