Alne Primary School

Alne Primary School is very proud of the achievements of its pupils. Recently all the Year 6 children completed their Silver level of the Duke Award Challenge set by their teachers Mrs Robson and Mr Chappell. This includes completing six challenges over the course of a year-2 each term-including such things as voluntary service, cooking, the Arts, a new skill, helping in the community. As a reward they completed a gruelling 11 mile bike ride from Riccall Village along the Planet Cycleway to Rowntrees Park in York, where they enjoyed a picnic and a play. All of Class 5 took part in a Dragons Den which involved having to present ideas to a team of “Dragons” who then chose whether or not to invest in them. Parents were also asked to buy shares in the companies at £1.00 each. Every Friday was selling day in school and the children had to produce spreadsheets, understand profit and loss, promote their products and market them appropriately. At the end of term, dividends were paid back to all the shareholders and the businesses were closed down. A healthy profit of nearly £150 has been split between a charity and ice creams! Many of our Year 6 pupils have become Young Leaders and can easily be recognised by their green hoodies awarded for outstanding contributions to such things as leading football training for younger pupils, running dance classes, helping to run the Library and organising Cricket at playtime.Three pupils who we are extremely proud of, are Abi Hewison, Sophie Hall and Beth Wilson who raised £240 by holding a Danceathon to raise money for new t shirts for their dance group. They taught younger children several dance routines which were performed for visiting parents who were served drinks and cakes by other Year 6 pupils. All of our Year 6 is now working hard to gain their Duke of Alne Gold Award which they hope to achieve by the end of this term!
