Arthur Watters Cycle Challenge
I left Coxwold on April 14th to cycle down to Lands End and back visiting a few friends on the way and staying in B&Bs elsewhere. The weather could have been kinder I took two days off for severe weather and returned to Coxwold on Monday 30th April. The next day was a rest day and a day for checking over my bike and kit before heading north on 2nd May through County Durham and the Borders, Edinburgh, Perth , the Grampians-serious hills-Inverness and eventually John O Groats on the 8th May in cold wet weather The next day heading west the weather improved and on the 11th I cycled out to Cape Wrath, the far N.W.-bleak but beautiful. The next day to head south to Ullapool where Sunday was another day in due to severe storms. In the far north of Scotland I stayed mainly in Youth Hostels. After the storm I continued south to Skye, Mull, The Kintyre Peninsular, Arran and then over to the mainland before heading down through the Glen Trool Forest,Dumfries crossing the border at Gretna and coming home to Coxwold at 6.40pm on Sunday 20th May to be welcomed by many friends outside the Fauconberg Arms.2528 miles, no punctures or problems with the bike except brake pads that had to be renewed twice. I am raising money for the Royal British Legion and so far the total is £4100. Appreciation goes to all who have sponsored me so far.
