Bank Holiday sun, breeze and Brass

Sunday 25 August saw Easingwold Town Band’s final performance of the summer in the Memorial Park bandstand.  Conducted by their Musical Director Matthew Pilcher, the Band played selections from their repertoire including film music, pop tunes, marches, traditional hymns, numbers from well-known musicals, and an operatic overture.  The sizeable audience enjoyed a pleasant and relaxed afternoon’s entertainment, with seating provided by Easingwold Lions, and shaded from the sun by Easingwold Scouts’ capacious marquee.  In the background, children played on the Park’s swings, slides and see-saws.  Refreshments were laid on by the Band’s dedicated group of helpers, raising a sum which, together with generous donations from the audience, enabled the Band to write a cheque for £113 to Easingwold Scouts.     With players away on holiday, the services of guest players from Thirsk and York were much appreciated.  The Band’s playing membership has increased this year, but more are still needed, and players of all standards are welcome at the Band’s Monday night practices, as detailed on its website.
