BARBECUE A SUCCESS!

“And after all the weather was ideal.”When the ladies of the Easingwold Parish Church ‘Home and Away’ committee looked out early on Sunday morning, a collective groan went up.  It was pouring!  And after last Saturday’s somewhat damp Church Garden Party, they had hoped for better conditions for their Barbecue fund-raising event.However, as might be expected, the Vicar’s weather forecast turned out to be the most accurate -  ‘Rain dying out by mid-morning, then sunshine from noon.’ – he assured us: and so it proved!    We assembled at the home of Mr and Mrs Gallon, where they had tried to cover all climatic eventualities, with some tables outside and some inside, just in case, and the barbecue itself in shelter behind the garage.But as people arrived, the weather got better and better, so most were able to enjoy the sunshine with their meal.  As usual, the ladies had produced a superb spread, with kebabs and sausages from the grill, where master chefs Tom Gallon and his son Michael slaved away, accompanied by a variety of salads and quiches.  This was followed by an equally extensive array of delicious desserts – it was noticeable that the queue for ‘seconds’ was just as long as the first time around!Overall it was a most successful event, enjoyed by around 50 people, as well as raising over £370, to be shared between the Church Urban Fund, and COZIE.We are most grateful to Mr and Mrs Gallon for allowing us the use of their house and grounds.
