Cancer Research UK and the 3Js

On Sunday 13th May the 3Js brought to the market square their work over many months.  3Js you ask, who are they? Well they are three ladies whose names all begin with J. They are Jenny Gibbs, Jane Fish and Joan Beck. They had been growing seeds and plants to sell at the Easingwold Friends of Cancer Research UK stall. It takes a long time and a lot of patience to grow plants for a certain date especially when the weather is against you.  This year, because of the cold, it has not been as easy to have everything ready for the due date.  However, come the morning, the 3Js valiently packed into their cars plants they had been nurturing in greenhouses and on window sills for many weeks. Peter Fish had already put up notices on the outskirts of the town to advertise the event and helped to transport the plants. Once in the market square they set up the tables and prepared to meet their customers. No sooner had the first table appeared than someone was there ready to buy. The wind was blowing gale-like round every corner, but this did not put people off.  The reputation of the 3Js has built up over the years and people knew they were getting good, well grown plants that would enhance their gardens in the coming months.  Under the guidance of Jane Fish who co-ordinates and masterminds the whole event this years sale lived up to all expectations.  The 3Js also had a 4th.J in committee member Judith Ford who came along as extra help.  By 10'clock, the stall was very busy and satisfied customers were seen leaving with armfuls of interesting and varied plants.  Altogether the event raised £701-00 and many of the remaining plants will be sold at the Little Legs event in June - so watch the Advertiser for details.Over in the Galtres Centre cream teas were served by committee members and a further £150 was raised. The committee is most grateful to everyone who supported this event and especially to the 3 now 4Js.Together we will beat cancer.NK
