Confirmation Service

Five young lads were confirmed by the Bishop of Selby, Rt. Revd Martin Wallace with Revd Chris Park and Revd Roy Wadsworth assisting last Sunday at St. Peters Church in Brafferton - a very poignant event in their lives.As four nervous boys stood in the front row, Bishop Martin Wallace was very sympathetic and said to them, this, like baptism is a once in your life experience, so relax and enjoy it! Which on the whole they did - despite being splashed with water from the font as part of the ceremony! Bishop Martin reminded the congregation that these boys got off lightly compared to long ago when St. Paulinus came to confirm many people in the river at Brafferton by totally submerging them in the water. They must have been keen to be confirmed as he did this in December, presumably with a water temperature to match! All five brave lads stood in front of a packed St. Peters Church and spoke about what being confirmed into the Church meant to them and how it enabled them to feel part of the Church Community at long last. This was only the start of a journey which will see them grow in their faith and commitment to God.
