Mens Exchange Day played Friday, 27th July at Cleveland GC. Captain David Tomkins reports, “This was the second Exchange day of the year and it dawned bright and dry, an unusual occurrence this year! The bus left the Market Place at 8.00am full of expectant golfers and returned at 8.00pm full of elated golfers; it was a great day on a very tough course. The rough was penal, so deep in places that we nearly lost Steve Allitt on a couple of occasions. However, as always there is one team that avoids all the trouble and triumphs.“Richard Ward, The “Senior Pro”, Don Pickering, The Eternal Winner, Terry Blogg, Mr Mabes, David Embleton, were that team and carried off the spoils. We were royally fed and watered, an excellent end to a great day”.Saturday saw the playing of The Hollinsgrove Cup. This is a fourball better ball, stableford competition and is Ken Skilbecks preferred format. To prove it he and John Knowles walked off with the trophy recording a very impressive 64 points. Bragging rights in the Skilbeck household are now equal as Di has had her name  on one of the prize boards for many years.  Ken now joins her! The win also capped a brilliant sporting weekend for the Skillys, as Paul got 100 and took 7 wickets for the cricket team.  Hollinsgrove Cup – played Saturday 28th July results – Winners K.Skilbeck and J.Knowles,64. Runners up, O.Kay  and N.Huggins, 65.Yorkshire Herald Mixed Foursomes  played at York Golf Club on Sunday 29th July. In past years we have always entered into the spirit of a sing-a-long and start most songs with enthusiasm, unfortunately we always seem to run out of words, so never complete them. This year I thought I would make it easy for everybody and brought copies of  some popular songs and it was quite satisfying to actually finish what we had started!  However, after trying to make sure we started on the right note, it soon became apparent that most ladies had decided to sing in the key of their choice. I could see the driver’s face in the mirror and he was wincing to say the least, how he kept that coach on the straight and narrow having us to listen to - god only knows ! Gareth Malone would have his hands full I can tell you!  We would be his biggest challenge to date.
