Garden party beats the weather!
After last year’s aquatic experience, the organisers of the Easingwold Parish Church Garden Party had a very stressful week, eyeing the frequent showers and consulting the gloomy meteorologists’ prognostications. But at least this year, the weather had the decency to declare its hand early! Saturday morning dawned dull and wet, with the promise of more rain to come, so we were able to set up all the stalls indoors at the Parish Rooms and enjoy a very successful event. There was a wide range of stalls: plants, books, crafts, scarves and jewellery, home-made cakes, bric-a-brac, tombola, Raskelf Toiletries and a sort of poker game for grocery prizes! Also, Saturday 1st August was “Yorkshire Day”, so there was a special stall dedicated to celebrating this great county, stocked with Yorkshire produce and memorabilia, ‘Make a White Rose buttonhole’, Yorkshire Recipes (!), and even, for those who think they know the county, a very testing ‘Yorkshire Quiz’! Meanwhile, as a break from browsing the stalls, the café supplied teas and coffees, scones, ‘Fat Rascals’ and Yorkshire Tea Loaf! So, not exactly a Garden Party, but at least this year, despite the date, there was no need for a prolonged display of Yorkshire grit, and no danger of the books turning into Pulp Fiction! This very enjoyable event raised nearly £900 for church funds.
