Mollie's Maundy Money

Children at the Forest of Galtres Primary School were treated to a visit by their school Governor Mollie Haigh who was chosen to receive Maundy Money from the Queen for her services to the church at Shipton-by-Beningbrough. Mollie came to a special assembly organised by Mrs Brown and did her own “Show and Tell” to the children about her day with the Queen. Div She told the children about the history behind the ceremony and how the Archbishop had greeted her and then she demonstrated how to curtsey to the Queen. The children were fascinated to hear how Mollie’s services to the Community and the church were rewarded with this special gift and they learnt the important lesson of how they should all strive to be good citizens. The reception class had made some crowns and a collage picture of the queen to give to Mollie, then pupil Hannah Smith pretended to be the Queen and the rest of the class had a procession line up. Thanks to Mollie, the school were delighted to receive a personal letter from Buckingham Palace acknowledging the childrens’ work and research into the Maundy Ceremony, which is a lovely memento of this special occasion.
