Pressed men for Wings Appeal
AIRMEN in North Yorkshire have been doing their bit to help the RAF Association’s annual (RAFA) Wings Appeal.Pilots from 207 Squadron at RAF Linton-on-Ouse near York put their backs into raising funds for the charity when instructor, Flight Lieutenant Andy McIntyre set a weighty challenge; how many Tucano aircraft could they lift in thirty minutes?But the basic trainer comes in at a shade under three tonnes, so rather than risk a hernia by trying to pick up one of the aircraft, members of 231 course decided to take it in turn to keep a set of weights continually lifted for the allotted half hour.Fg Off Tom Ashenden said: “Sponsorship had been collected during the previous week and with this in mind we determined to put on a good show.” The fighting fit pilots kept up a relentless pace and managed to lift an incredible 39,000 kilos - the equivalent of 13 Tucanos - in the allotted time.For their strenuous efforts the pilots raised £100, which is now winging its way to RAFA.
