THOLTHORPE 10K

The fifteenth running of the Tholthorpe 10K road race took place on Sunday 5th September. The number of entrants was up on previous years, with a total of 270 runners completing the course. The overall winner of the Tholthorpe 10K and the North Yorkshire Championship was course record holder Darran Bilton of Leeds City AC in a time of 32 mins 26 secs. Katy Rawnsley of Scarborough AC was the first women home in 38 mins 33 secs. Ripon Runners won the male team event, and Scarborough AC was the first female team. The first local male was Mark Whiteman, and the first local female Rebecca Earl, both of Easingwold Running Club. In fact Easingwold Running Club were well represented with 58 members finishing the race. The race is run annually with proceeds going towards the maintenance of Tholthorpe Village Hall. The initial estimate of the money made this year is over £1700. This is a tremendous sum, and appreciation must go to the 40+ villagers who assisted with marshaling, catering and general organisation of the run before and on the day, and who made the event so successful. Gratitude must also go to the main sponsors Stephensons of Easingwold, and also Acaster Steel, John Ruddock Motor Vehicle Repairs, and Chris Topp Wrought Ironworks for their support.Next year's race is provisionally booked for Sunday 4th September, so anyone interested should place that date in their diary. Those who haven't done any serious running before should get in touch with Easingwold Running Club, who have run very successful beginners courses over the last few years.  Andrew MasomTholthorpe 10K Race Director
