Disability charity, United Response, have been running the Boot Shop in Easingwold since 1994, the centre hosts workshops in the arts, health and wellbeing to help people with learning disabilities find the things they love doing most.
People supported at the Boot Shop created mixed media artwork during the lockdowns, a creative outlet during a period of isolation due to the pandemic.
Brian Timmins, Team leader at the Boot Shop, was keen to help the people he supports get back into the community:
“The photographic work that came out of lockdown was fantastic. New members of staff have brought new skills too, like the button art.
It’s just a real celebration of what the team have achieved – supporting people with exceptional artistic skill and talent.
Most importantly, it starts to change people’s ideas about who the people we support are and what they’re capable of. That’s really powerful....
