The annual triples bowls match between Easingwold and Huby to celebrate the life of Derrick Johnson, was played on Saturday (26th July).
Derrick was a greatly respected player by both clubs, and an amazing bowler.
This was the 4th year of competition, and it was Huby’s turn to host. Rain was expected but never materialised, so the contest (a triples) was played out, with no interruptions, over 6 rinks and 16 ends.
At halfway both sides were in front on 3 rinks but more importantly Huby were 50-36 on shots.
After 12 ends things had changed dramatically, Easingwold were up in three and Huby led on two, with one tied. Huby was ahead by just 3 shots 67-64.
In reverse order rink 6 was won by Huby 19-16, rink 5 fell to Easingwold 19-13, rink 4 to Huby 19-8 and the home also took rink 3 14-13, plus rink 2 14-10.
Last to finish was rink 1, with the 16th end still to play Easingwold were leading 20-8 and the overall total was 87-86 in favour of Huby.
So, the result hung on the last end Easingwold were holding but by how many? It was a single, so the game finished in a tie 87-87.
