Easingwold Remembering VJ Day 80 ...

Saturday 23rd August, 2025

On the 15th August, Easingwold came together to remember Victory over Japan day at the Market Place War Memorial.

VJ Day 80 was a very hot day with not a cloud in the sky. This sunshine greeted the many that attended the short service organised by the Easingwold Branch of the Royal British Legion.

A piper started the proceedings before a short service. The gathering also heard recordings from August 1945 from the Prime Minister Clement Attlee and King George VI.

The names of the Easingwold WWII servicemen killed were read out, a lone cornet player rounded off the proceedings with the last post. The colours were lowered and raised, and the crowd showed their appreciation with a spontaneous round of applause!
