At our first meeting of 2024, we welcomed Alison Easson who gave a very funny and interesting talk which was entitled ‘Guess Who’s Coming for Lunch.’ Alison used to work at Bishopthorpe Palace and was there in 2005 during the time that Royal Ascot was hosted at York Racecourse.

Bishopthorpe Palace had been chosen as the venue for the Queen to have lunch each day of the Royal Ascot festival.

Alison talked about the very many instructions that they received from the Royal Household to prepare for the royal visit and the many arrangements necessary to make the week of lunches run smoothly.

Each day a different set of invited guests joined the Queen for lunch.
