The Easingwold Advertiser & Weekly News is a family-owned paper for Easingwold and the surrounding area
The Easingwold and District flower club have celebrated their 38th birthday! To mark the occasion, Peter Mathers from New Earswick came to present his illustrated talk on gardens in and around Dublin and Wicklow on the east coast of Ireland.
Peter was due to speak in front of the group two years ago but we all know what happened in 2020! In his talk, Peter explored six gardens and their environs. He explained that because of the Gulf Stream, these gardens never experienced frost so plants didn't die back or shrivel in snow!
The first garden was in the extensive grounds of Kilruddery House. There are a number of statues but the main feature seemed to be a beautiful central canal. They also have a walled garden in which food is grown to supply a cafe and a restaurant. There is also a Sports Field with hurling goalposts and a green post box dating back to pre-1922 before Southern Ireland became independent of Great Britain!
