End of an Era: Towlers Newsagents changes Hands...

Saturday 29th November, 2025

After serving the town for sixty years, Towlers Newsagents in Easingwold will be changing hands at the end of November as the family begins a well-earned retirement.

The shop first opened in 1965 when Mr Towler, his wife and daughters moved to Easingwold into what is now part of Boots in the Market Place.

For the first few years, they lived above the shop whilst getting to know Easingwold. The shop quickly became a familiar part of daily life for generations of residents.

From early - morning papers and sweets after school, to the friendly chat at the counter, the family soon settled into Easingwold life.

As the business grew, the family moved into what used to be Myers grocers shop in Chapel Street. This was a much larger premises and Towlers expanded into the upstairs. It became a book and toy shop as well as a newsagents after purchasing a toy shop in Malton.

We wish the Towler family a long and happy retirement and look forward to the new ownership keeping this family shop running.
