The Easingwold Advertiser & Weekly News is a family-owned paper for Easingwold and the surrounding area
There was a good attendance at Easingwold’s WI October meeting, despite the dreadful weather.
As always, lots of arrangements were made. Tickets given out for the Carol Service at Ampleforth, lifts arranged for their lunch at Raskelf, and theatre tickets were distributed for HMS Pinafore. Lists for the rota for the Christmas fair and the next theatre visit, Sweeney Todd in February were also organised.
Their speaker for the evening was Barbara Hickman. She gave a talk with slides entitled “Trees for small gardens”.
Barbara had been a teacher and has travelled the world, visiting many botanical gardens and enjoying nature, seeing massive trees in New Zealand.
Her lifelong interest had been sparked by her mother, who had taken her on regular nature walks, describing trees, flowers and wildlife as they went.
Barbara decided to give up teaching and trained at Askham Bryan as a gardener.
Find out more about Barbara’s talk and the WI’s future plans by visiting your nearest stockist and buying a copy of the paper.
