Camino de Santiago...

Saturday 25th October, 2025

What an experience walking the Camino de Santiago!

Everyone is now safely back home, with any lingering aches rapidly disappearing, but re-living the experiences of walking 75 miles in 5 days along The Pilgrims Way across the north of Spain, called the Camino de Santiago. 10 walkers and 15 friends who came out to join the celebrations in Santiago de Compostella, all had a great and memorable time!

The walk started in Sarria and finished in front of the magnificent Cathedral of St James, the Apostle, in Santiago.

Apart from day 2 when it rained, and everyone got rather wet, the weather was perfect with daytime temperatures in the mid 20’s along with sunshine and blue skies.

The walkers trekked through grasslands, moorlands, forests, pathways with daily ascents and descents. They not only survived but enjoyed it.

Local Easingwoldians, Tom Wilson and Jack Redshaw joined Ian Connell together with 7 other friends from York, North Yorkshire and London in completing this adventure to support The Janis Connell Fund that sits within the Brain Tumour Charity.

The group had a lot of fun, interesting conversations and lots of mickey-taking along the way that will not be forgotten quickly.

Some may not have known each other before this adventure but new friendships were borne and a great time was had!

A more serious note, the statistics is that over the 5 days of the walk and a total of 7,200 minutes, on average another 157 UK residents will have been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Fundraising events like this will help these sad statistics have a happy ending in the future.
